Overview

This site follows the conversion of our 1996 Hilux Ute to a fully electric vehicle. The objective is to create an electric vehicle that can be used to drive to and from work each day, a round trip of approximatly 70km and at speeds up to 100 kph.
The conversion is intentionally simple using common components and a donor vehicle that is unlikely to require any modifications other than the engine change.
A 9 inch DC motor will be used. The original gearbox will be retained together with the clutch.
Nominal battery voltage will be 144V although components will be selected to allow for a possible increase in voltage if the range of the converted vehicle is insufficient. Maximum motor current of 600A should provide reasonable acceleration.
Auxiliary equipment will include the original air conditioning compressor driven from the main traction motor, an electric hydraulic pump for the power steering and a vacuum pump for the brakes.
